Kalispell’s Samaritan House Expands

It what seems like a never-ending struggle to help people who’ve lost their homes get their lives back, the Samaritan House is about to break-ground on their $16.9-million expansion. Using the property they acquired years ago, at the old Army Reserve Center, on 2nd Street West, the plan is to build 18-family apartments, 16-single-occupancy veteran-dedicated units and a community building where residents can socialize.

Appearing on the KGEZ Good Morning Show, Samaritan House Executive Director Chris Krager tells us, once someone becomes homeless, the road back is difficult but it’s possible.  He says it takes deposits, first and last month’s rent, moving expenses and, of course, a landlord who’ll take a chance on someone who hit hard times.

He tells John & Robin Kalispell is the largest city in the state with no dedicated housing for veterans.  He says they’re “going to change that.”

So far, he’s raised about half of the money he needs to do all he wants to do with the new facilities.

The Samaritan House celebrates their ground-breaking Thursday afternoon, beginning at 3:00.
