House Bills 544 and 721 set rules limiting Medicaid funding for abortion. House Bill 721 restricts abortions after the first trimester and House Bill 575, requires an ultrasound before a procedure after 24-weeks, all overturned by the State’s High Court.
The plaintiffs, Planned Parenthood of Montana, the Center for Reproductive Rights, the ACLU of Montana, Blue Mountain Clinic and All Families Healthcare in Whitefish, tell us, “Politicians have no place in the exam rooms.”
Gov. Greg Gianforte, in a statement, says he’s disappointed, saying the felt the Legislature was correct in bringing our state into compliance with the Hyde Amendment, which bans public funds for abortions. He reiterates his belief that all life is precious and must be protected.
