The Senate, on a 51-49 vote, confirms Pete Hegseth as the next Secretary of Defense. It was largely a party line vote, with Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine siding with Democrats. The former combat veteran and Fox News host will take control of America’s Defenses without ever holding a field grade rank or attending the U.S. Army War College–as has most of the people he will be supervising.
This makes Hegseth the third Trump Cabinet pick to be confirmed, followed by CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
