As FWP predicted, the 2024 General Hunting Season is seeing more hunters reporting success than last year. We’re now at the halfway point, and we’re seeing a lot of activity in the woods. After 3-weekends of the season, more than 5,400 hunters have been checked at the stations with 8.6% successful, compared to 7.1% last year.
So far, the most-successful hunters are checking in at the Thompson Falls Station at 9.5%. The Olney Check-Station, on Hwy 93 is at 8.6%
So far, 378-White Tail deer have been harvested, of which 232 are Bucks. 60-mule-deer and 28-elk have been taken so far this season.
In NW Montana, the 4-check stations are on Hwy 2 West of Kalispell, US 93 near Olney, MT 83 north of Swan Lake and Hwy 200 west of Thompson Falls. Hunters are required to stop at one of the check stations, whether or not their hunt was successful
General Hunting Season continues through dusk on Sunday, December 1st.
