As FWP predicted, the 2024 General Hunting Season kicked-off with more hunters reporting success than last year. In fact, over the weekend, the 4-NW Montana Check Stations registered over 2,000-hunters, 10% of them reporting game, which is 3% more than last year’s opening weekend.
In NW Montana, the 4-check stations are on Hwy 2 West of Kalispell, US 93 near Olney, MT 83 north of Swan Lake and Hwy 200 west of Thompson Falls. Hunters are required to stop at one of the check stations, whether or not their hunt was successful.
The most-successful hunters were west of Kalispell, checking in with 82-white tail deer, 36-bucks, 12-mule deer and 10-elk.
General Hunting Season continues through dusk on Sunday, December 1st.
