Monday is inauguration day for Donald J. Trump and, because we’re in a period of mourning at the death of former President Jimmy Carter, we’re caught in a position of having flags at half-staff that day.
The President-Elect claims–on his Truth Social platform, Democrats are “giddy” at the idea of half-staff flags on his inauguration. This, however, isn’t the first time this has happened. In 1973, flags flew at half-staff for the inauguration ceremonies of President Richard Nixon. They were at half-staff to honor former President Harry Truman.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has declared that all flags raised to full-staff. In Montana, Gov. Greg Gianforte has ordered all flags raised to full-staff in honor of the Inauguration of Donald Trump. His order applies to all state buildings, including the Capitol, from sunrise to sunset on Monday. All flags are to be restored to half-staff for the remainder of the 30-day period in honor of Former President Jimmy Carter’s death.
The Gov. says, “While Montana continues to recognize and remember the memory of Former President Jimmy Carter, we must also greet the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, with honor.”
