Breathtaking Swan Lake Parcel Secures Conservation Easement

Swan Lake, MT — A beautiful 51-acre parcel of land along the Seeley-Swan Highway (Montana 83) has been permanently protected through a new conservation easement, ensuring that the area remains a haven for wildlife and continues to contribute to the preservation of the pristine Swan Lake region.

The generous donation of the conservation easement was made possible by local landowners Paul Johnson and Candace Greene. Their commitment to environmental stewardship means that the land will remain undisturbed, providing an essential travel corridor for wildlife and protecting the area from development and sediment runoff.

The easement not only preserves the natural beauty of the land but also plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of Swan Lake by reducing sediment runoff into the water body. This measure is vital for keeping the lake’s ecosystem intact, ensuring that it remains a thriving habitat for various species.

Additionally, the conserved land acts as a critical wildlife corridor, allowing animals to travel safely between Swan Lake and the more remote areas of the Swan Mountains. This connectivity extends to the Bob Marshall Wilderness, offering a continuous habitat for species that rely on these vast, undisturbed areas for their survival.

The successful establishment of this conservation easement was a collaborative effort involving the Flathead Land Trust and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP). The Flathead Land Trust played an instrumental role in facilitating the conservation process, working alongside FWP to ensure that the land’s ecological value was preserved for future generations.

As travelers drive along the Seeley-Swan Highway, they will now be able to appreciate not only the scenic beauty of the area but also the ongoing efforts to protect and sustain Montana’s natural landscapes. This conservation easement stands as a testament to the power of community and collaboration in preserving the state’s cherished wilderness areas.
