2024 Hunting Season Forecast

We’re moving into the 2024 Hunting Season in NW Montana. Bow Hunters are already in the back country in search of a close-up shot. Bow Hunting for deer ends Sunday night, October 20th. Youth deer hunting begins this Thursday and continues through Sunday. General Deer and Elk season begins at daybreak Saturday, October 26th, ending at sunset on Sunday, December 1st. FWP is predicting higher numbers of both deer and elk this season due to the mild winter. We’re being told that Moose numbers in the Cabinet-Salish range are still a bit below normal, but populations appear to have stabilized. You’re being cautioned that CWD–Chronic Wasting Disease, has been detected in White Tail, Deer, Mulies, Elk and Moose. New this year is mandatory testing of animals taken within the Libby CWD Management Zone for those hunting with a Deer-B license. You’ll have 10-days from harvesting the animal to report your findings.
