In Polson, Police Officer Michael Wharton attempted to stop a vehicle with no taillights last Friday night. The driver of that vehicle, now known to us as 49-year-old Cameron Francis of Gridley, California, began shooting at Officer Wharton’s police cruiser.
A high-speed chase ensued, ending in Elmo where Francis was arrested with the help of Flathead Tribal Police.
Cameron Francis is in the Lake County Detention Center, charged with attempted deliberate homicide. His bail has been set at $2 million. Officer Wharton received treatment for his wounds from EMT’s called to the scene.
