At Tuesday night’s Kalispell School Board meeting, Kalispell Schools Superintendent Matt Jensen will ask for a high school levy request.
Appearing on the KGEZ Good Morning Show, Superintendent Jensen tells us the district is really up against it, working without a levy for the past 18 years, they’ve done everything they can to keep the District in the black. The State funding mechanism is complicated and doesn’t allow the district to spend money on things like Vo-Ag and other programs that aren’t tied to the 3-R’s.
Kalispell Schools have the least money available of any of the Double A school districts in Montana. Jensen adds that when you consider the cost of living increases over the past 18 years, it’s a small wonder the district is now at a crisis point.
The levy amount hasn’t been determined but he says with the large tax base in the District, it’s likely to be fairly small.
