It’s pretty clear that the 69th Session of the Montana Legislature will continue to deal with the topic of Transgender people. But, in a move to bar transgender legislators–there’s only one that we know of, from using the 2-bathrooms in the Capitol reserved for legislators, the Rules Committee thought better. With the votes of 3-GOP members of the Committee, the rule won’t be in effect this session.
At least one, Rep. David Bedley of Hamilton, said he felt the rule would put Montana back in the national news and would adversely affect the Legislature’s ability to do its business.
Rep. Ed Buttrey of Great Falls asked how they’d know the chromosomal make-up of any individual. Nobody knew.
Notably, Kalispell Rep. Courtenay Sprunger was one of the Republicans who voted against instituting the measure. The Legislature goes into session on Monday, January 6th, 2025.
