The City of Whitefish has already seen an incident where a legal immigrant living in Kalispell was arrested and taken into federal custody. Now, the City Council is reconsidering their relationship with the Border Patrol.
Council Member Ben Davis told the Council, “We don’t really know what they’re doing.” He cites a total lack of transparency.
This is a change in the historic relationship between the City and the Border Patrol.
Council Member Rebecca Norton shared her concerns, hoping their police department will not call for “person checks” when making routine traffic stops. The exception, she says, is when there’s criminal activity involved.
