Moose Creek Ax Murder Case Solved

Gallatin County Sheriff’s investigators have pieced together the events that lead to the death of 35 year-old Dustin Kjersem, found dead inside his tent at Moose Creek, near Big Sky. He had extensive injuries to his skull and body. Initially, it was thought to be a bear attack. Not so… We’ve learned that 41-year old Daren Christopher Abbey has confessed to Kjersem’s murder. Here’s where the story gets a big bazaar. Back on October 24th, they learned of a white “skinhead dude” making employees at Big Sky Resort and The Rocks Tasting Room “uncomfortable”, talking about him doing prison-time and making white supremacist comments. He told a patron he was camping in the Moose Creek area. The next day, the Montana State Crime Lab confirmed that DNA located on a beer can retrieved from the crime scene matched two previous offenders.,,the confessed murderer, Daren Abbey and his twin brother, Dustin. Dustin ha been at the Crossroads Correctional Facility in Shelby since September 17th. The physical evidence is piling up, including the DNA, 2-coolers, a .44 magnum pistol and holster, a shotgun, and a shotgun ammunition sleeve. That, and Daren Abbey’s confession.  He’s in the Gallatin County Detention Center on $1.5-million bail.
