Monday night’s Kalispell City Council Work Session is a follow-up to an earlier requested Council action about the safety and security of the former Outlaw Inn which had fallen into disrepair. At that time, the City Ordinance addressing concerns regarding security and safety at vacant buildings was modified to allow action to be taken.
At the time, the Council requested a review of the mechanisms that allow enforcement of City Building and Fire Codes. City Manager Doug Russell has researched what other Montana cities are doing and will present that report to the Council. In short, he discovered that of the eight largest cities in the state, Kalispell is the only one that has no dedicated personnel for Code Enforcement. Missoula and Billings, for example, have a Code Compliance Manager and five Compliance Officers.
As with all Work Sessions, open conversation between Council and City Staff and interested citizens is encouraged. No official actions are taken.
