Nearly 33,000-acres of forest in the Salish and Cabinet Mountains…between Kalispell and Libby, will forever be protected in the Montana Great Outdoors Conservation Project. This effort has been in the works for years, receiving final approval by the Montana Land Board.
Appearing on the KGEZ Good Morning Show, FWP’s Dillon Tabbish tells us what a treasure this is. Go to the In Case You Missed It section on this page to catch his comments.
It’s been an expensive project: the U.S. Forest Service is putting-in $20-million, FWP $1.5-million, Trust for Public Lands wrote a check of $4.2-million and Green Diamond is donating the land, valued at $14-million. And this easement includes mineral rights, so nobody can come in and start digging or drilling.
But that’s not all, folks! Another 52,000-acres west and south of the Lost Trail National Wildlife Refuge is slated to become part of this major land easement.
