Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino has been arguing for a larger than cost-of-living pay increases for his deputies. He’s been asking for $33 to $34 an hour for his deputies, which puts our county in line with other larger sheriff’s offices in the state.
The matter came before the Flathead County Compensation Board, which denied the request on a 5-3 vote. That put the matter in front of the county commissioners.
With the uncertainty of the revenue the county will receive following the Property Tax Relief bills passed by the Legislature, the commissioners were reluctant to incur the $325,000 hit to the county’s budget. Commissioner Randy Brodehl made the motion to deny with Commissioner Brad Abell’s second. The commissioners’ vote was unanimous.
