Northwest Montana’s Original Radio Station had been dark for several years. A sad chapter for a radio station that began serving our communities nearly a century ago, but all that ended when 10,000-songs in a row opened the new chapter of this historic frequency. KGEZ had taken us through the Great Depression, the attack on Pearl Harbor, World War II, the Kennedy Assassination and all the turmoil of the 1960s.
The darkness ended that January morning with 10,000-songs, playing continuously back-to-back. It’s a few weeks to play all that music but when it ended, the completely refurbished KGEZ debuted with the KGEZ Good Morning Show. Our first major feature was the George Ostrom News and Comment. Soon after, Robin Mitchell joined John Hendricks for the KGEZ Good Morning Show and our dedicated to the people of NW Montana began anew.
Some very dedicated people have been a part of our “resurrection”. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for our advertisers, for whom we work tirelessly. News-makers have embraced our non-political philosophy of reporting. Our Congressional Delegations, City and County Officials, candidates and community leaders all find the “welcome” sign in our Studio One of First Avenue East.
KGEZ is proud to be serving NW Montana and stay tuned: next year, we’ll be celebrating our 100th anniversary. Details on that forthcoming.
