It’ll be back to the drawing board for a proposed 99-unit apartment complex along Airport Road adjacent to the South Meadows subdivision. The 12-acre tract did get annexed into the City, but zoning it RA-1, or Residential Apartment, was not approved.
One of the concerns is the property is adjacent to Ashley Creek. That, was explained on the KGEZ Good Morning Show by Council Member and Mayoral candidate Ryan Hunter. For a development, the City Code requires a 200-foot setback from Ashley Creek. The proposed apartment complex isn’t a development, so that section of the code doesn’t apply. The Council decided to deny the zoning portion of the application.
Residents expressed concerns about the increased traffic onto Bluestone Drive, which is near the the Archie Roe Baseball Park. Bluestone is relatively narrow and has no sidewalks or a bike path. Also in the area, the Begg Park dog park and to the south on Airport Road is Rankin Elementary School.
