The Flathead County Animal Shelter is ready to adopt out 20 of the 27 dogs seized by Flathead Deputies in the Canyon in March. Take a look at the Shelter’s Adoption Page; each dog is named after a city – Cheyenne is pictured above. The best way to reach the shelter’s website is through the County’s site, FlatheadCounty.gov.
55-year-old Candy Jean Evans was arrested back on March 13th, charged with felony animal cruelty. At the time of her arrest, deputies seized the dogs along with one dead puppy. At her arraignment last month, she pleaded not guilty with an omnibus hearing set for August 20th and a pre-trial conference on September 17th. Until her disposition is known, the remaining dogs cannot be adopted until she relinquishes ownership.
It was a situation that had been brewing for months. Last summer, the Sheriff’s animal control officers investigated reports of someone shooting at the dogs. At the time, Evans’ sister, Lavina, relinquished 5 puppies over to the Animal Shelter. They were found to have parvovirus, quarantined and treated. They all survived, but there were more encounters with the sisters and their dogs before deputies finally removed the dogs from the property.
