If it seems like Kalispell is getting crowded…it is! With updated Census Bureau data, Kalispell is the fastest-growing city in the state over the past 5 years…nearly 25%. The Census Bureau released the latest population stats from more than 3,000 counties nationwide, including incorporated cities. Kalispell’s population has been put at 31,296.
Whitefish has grown by 20% in the past 5 years, Columbia Falls has seen a 9.6% growth in that time span.
Let’s start with the state: Montana’s updated population is now 1,137,233, which turns out to be a about half as much as the national growth rate of 1%. We’re told that Montana isn’t getting growth from international migration, like other states.
Flathead County led the state in most added residents at 10,100 new residents. And here’s an interesting statistic: 99% of our population growth came from out-of-state.
Still, Montana’s most populous spot is the Billings area, with Yellowstone county home to 171,583 people.
