Things are moving quickly for the zone change request for the Lazy Day Trailer Park located off Hwy 2 at Meadow Lake Boulevard. The Columbia Falls Planning Commission has approved changing the north half of the property from Light Industrial to General Business, joining the southern half, which is already zoned General Business.
The only comment came from the Montana Department of Transportation, requesting the property be accessed only from Meadow Lake Boulevard, not Hwy 2.
Residents of the Trailer Park have already received eviction notices. Chris Peterson of the Hungry Horse News reports the residents have some options. If they leave by July 18th, turning over the title to their trailer, they’ll receive $10,000. Wait until September 18th, $5,000, and after October 18th, nothing. Residents say it’ll cost upwards of $6,000 to have their trailers moved — if they can find another trailer park taking new residents.
At this point, no one seems to know what will eventually be built on the property. Next up for the zone change is approval by the Columbia Falls City Council who’ll take up the request at their meeting on Monday, July 7th with a Public Hearing.
