Our first major wildfire of the season is burning over 1,500 acres 150 miles northeast of Wisdom, in the Sawlog Creek area. Named the Sawlog Fire, it’s running rampant through dry fuels, specifically dead and downed trees.
Over the weekend, the 65 firefighters working the blaze encountered winds gusting to 50 mph. Overnight, there was light snowfall and rain expected today, which has kept the fire’s expansion at bay.
They’re concentrating their efforts to protect the western flank, along the Big Hole River, where private residences could be in danger.
