Fishing along Red Rock Creek, southwest of Helena, has been suspended as searcher comb the area for a grizzly bear that charged 2-fishermen Monday afternoon. They told Game Wardens that the bear charged through thick brush. One of the anglers got off a shot, in self-defense. It’s not known if that injured the bear. The two were able to escape the area unharmed.
FWP Grizzly bear staff and game wardens searched the area Wednesday. No bears or carcasses were found. No further management action from FWP is planned.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has issued a temporary closure of a section of Red Rock Creek for public safety.
