Indigenous Peoples’ Day A Governor’s Signature Away

Montana could be celebrating a new holiday…Indigenous Peoples Day. There’s only one stop left for Senate Bill 224, passed by the House with a 87-12 majority. The bill is expected to be transmitted to Gov. Greg Gianforte in the next few days.

Appearing on the KGEZ Good Morning Show, State Sen. Shane Morigeau tells us this is a day for everyone to celebrate – or not – it’s our choice.  He says it’s a chance for all of us to look into a mirror and think about where we come from.

And so, the 2nd Monday of October is a holiday for everyone to celebrate who we are as Montanans. It will co-exist with “Columbus Day,” similar to the way “Presidents Day” combines the birthdays of both Presidents Washington and Lincoln in February.
