The Izaak Walton Inn, in Essex, appears to be in trouble again…financial trouble that’s leading to its closure early next month. The historic hotel was acquired by LOGE Camps 3-years ago from longtime owner Brian Kelly for upwards of $13.5-million.
The historic hotel, first opened in 1939, was renamed LOGE-Glacier, remodeled and updated. It is one of the few hotels that stay open year round near Glacier National Park. It must have seems like a slam-dunk to LOGE Camps.
We don’t know much about the internal works of LOGE Camps, but reports coming from various sources indicate they might have been a bit too aggressive in their acquisitions of several similar properties. Their fate rested with a combination of interest rates rising and the failure of Silicon Valley Bank, which left them without the financing they thought they had, leading them into bankruptcy.
There is some hope that a local group might be able to acquire the Izaak Walton Inn.
