President Trump has signed the Rescission Act that they say will “claw back” over $9-billion from 2 major programs: Foreign Aid and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
In Montana, National Public Radio serves in two major areas: Montana Pubic Radio & Yellowstone Public Radio. Originating out of studios at the University of Montana and Montana State University, Public Radio reaches across our state through of network of lower-power FM stations known as translators. In Montana’s most rural areas, it is the only radio service they receive and in some of these areas, high-speed Internet has yet to arrive.
Friday morning on the KGEZ Good Morning Show, we talked with Montana Public Radio Broadcast Media Center Director Anne Hosler who tells us Montana Public Radio was created at the University of Montana in 1965. They provide coverage to many communities including the Kalispell area, Dillon, Great Falls, Helena, Thompson Falls, Browning, and Deer Lodge. She tells us 50% of their programming is locally produced.
As for what’s next, Anne says they’re planning a major campaign to try to raise the funds they’ve lost, which amounts to 11% of their budget. KGEZ is a strong supporter of local radio stations serving the needs of their citizens.
