Jim Atkinson served our community in many ways for decades. He died Sunday, February 8th. He was 76.
Jim served on the Kalispell City Council for 29-years. Even though he had non-specific neuromuscular degeneration, one could see him riding his scooter around out town. He volunteered often at the Northwest Montana History Museum and was active in Kiwanis. Jim was also the Director of the Flathead County Agency on Aging.
Jim put his education to work as a special education teacher, earning his BA in Psychology at the University of Montana and an MA in Special Education at the University of Oregon. He worked as a special education teacher. He also worked with the Senior Mobile Home Repair and was a frequent guest on the KGEZ Good Morning Show.
He s survived by his wife Vivian; children Crystal, Wade, Jason, and Wendy; brother Deni (Sandy); nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and innumerable friends, family and loved ones.
Jim’s funeral service is 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, at Family Life Christian Church, 1075 Foys Lake Road. The family suggests donations to Senior Mobile Home Repair.
