For decades in Montana, insurance companies couldn’t have different premium rates for men and women, married or not. That changed in the 2021 Legislature with House Bill 379, which repealed the “unisex” statute.
Now, the Courts have affirmed the bill’s constitutionality. Lewis & Clark District Judge Mike Menahan has granted a summary judgement ending a challenge to the bill repealing the statue.
The charge to allow insurance companies to evaluate men and women’s situation separately was leg by State Auditor James Brown (Pictured).
It will be interesting to see if the changes result in lower health and vehicle insurance rates.
