The flags flown over schools and government buildings are now regulated by law, thanks to House Bill 819 carried by Rep. Braxton Mitchell, a Republican from Columbia Falls. Pride and other LGBTQ flags can no longer be flown over official government buildings…effective now. And that includes any flag that “represents a political party, race, sexual orientation, gender or political ideology.”
Utah and Idaho have similar laws but in Montana you may still fly the “Don’t Tread On Me,” the Confederate, and other “official historical flags.” In Montana, it’s also permissible to fly Tribal, foreign, military service branches, the POW/MIA flag (shown above), and official school or government entities’ flags.
