The snowplows are still working the Alpine Section of the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The latest reports say they’re about 3 miles from the summit on the west side, getting in as far as the Big Bend. They’re working through snow depths up to 8 feet in places, so the work is slow and the weather this time of the year can present “surprises.” On the east side, they’re plowing up at Siyeh Bend.
As for hiking/biking, the west side is clear up to Road Camp, about 14 miles from where the cars have to park–the Lake McDonald Lodge. On the east side, hiking/biking is good up to the Jackson Glacier Overlook–about 6 miles past Rising Sun.
Elsewhere, the Camas Road is open for the season, as is the Fish Creek Road up to the Rocky Point trailhead. The entire length of the Grist Road, on the west side of Lake McDonald is now open. Also, the The Quarter Circle Bridge Road is now open for the season.
The Cut Bank Road is open up to the Ranger Station, but not quite up Cut Bank Trailhead yet. The Two Medicine Road, between East Glacier and Hwy 89 is now open for the season.
The Many Glacier Road is now open, as is the Chief Mountain Road.
