A man from Nebraska–entering Montana with a no-bond arrest warrant, has died in a shoot-out with 2-Montana Highway Patrol Troopers. It was reported that the man was armed and had explosives. It all came-down Thursday afternoon around 3:00 in the Big Timber area. The troopers are on administrative leave and the man, considered suicidal, armed and dangerous is in the Sweet Grass County morgue.
Attorney-General Austin Knudsen tells us the suspect vehicle was spotted by MHP near Big Timber. Another MHP trooper provided back-up and the pursuit began. They attempted to disable the perp’s vehicle with a PIT maneuver, which was unsuccessful. That’s when shots were fired at the troopers, who returned fire, bringing the suspect down. The entire shooting incident lasted about 3-minutes.
The Sweet Grass County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist shortly after the incident. The Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) will lead the investigation.
