President Trump has signed an Executive Order, using his emergency authority, to allow some older coal-fired power plants to keep producing electricity. At the White House, surrounded by four Governors of coal-producing states, including Gov. Greg Gianforte.
President Trump says he’s bringing back America’s coal industry. On KGEZ 20-20 News, he calls it “beautiful, clean coal.” This means the Colstrip Coal Power Plant, employing 360 Montanans, will not be retired, as planned under the current EPA regulations. That, together with the nearby Rosebud Mine, employing another 370 workers. Both will likely remain open for decades to come. Trump says coal is the more powerful and reliable energy source saying, “The value of untapped coal is 100-times the value of all the gold in Ft. Knox.”
Between the Colstrip Power Plant and the Rosebud Mine, there’s enough energy generation for 500,000 homes over the next 20 years.
