Property Tax Rebate Application Begin Friday

The Legislature put a lot of work into property tax relief, carving out new tax rates designed to lower property taxes for most Montanans. But…they couldn’t finish up the legislation in time for the Department of Revenue to get the changes in place for this tax year so it’s another year of rebates. This year, it’s up to $400.

That means, in order to get your property tax rebate, you’ll need to take action. Beginning Friday, you’ll be able to apply for your tax rebate online at Get My Rebate dot MT dot gov. There’s also a paper form, if you choose, but the fastest way to get your rebate is by applying online. No matter how you apply for it, you must get it done by October 1st. To qualify, you must have lived in your home at least 7 months and paid property taxes in 2024.

If you have your tax bill in hand, you’ll have all the information you’ll need, including your physical address, geocode, amount of property taxes paid and the names and social security numbers of the taxpayer and any spouse. When you go online, there’s a video demonstration to help you apply.

And there’s more good news. Next year, the Homestead Rate kicks in and by applying for this rebate, you’ll likely be all set up for that in next year’s taxes.
