Proposed New Kalispell Library Location

We may finally have a location for the Kalispell Branch of the Flathead County Library. The clock is ticking on the lease for their current in the old Post Office building on 1st Avenue East.

Earlier, we’d heard about property at 40 North Main Street, adjacent to the Parkline Trail, but that has apparently changed. The current plans include a letter of intent to purchase land adjacent to the Kalispell Center Mall, but still somewhere adjoining the Parkline Trail.

The letter of intent offers $2.5-million for the property, but the new owner of the Kalispell Center Mall, Parkline Properties, is firm in their counter offer of $3-million. If the deal goes through, the Library has 36 months to begin construction.

What the Library will eventually look like hasn’t been determined, but the Library Board has set aside $5,000 to design a mock-up. That’ll be used to raise the estimated $30-million it’ll take to build it.

If all goes as planned, a capital campaign for fundraising will begin shortly.
