There’s a 25-acre tract of State Trust Land, between Stillwater Road and the Bypass, known as the Moraine Parcel, that’s begging to be developed.
Thing is, it’s State Trust Land–set aside by the state’s original surveyors for the use of our schools. The State Land Board (Pictured above), made up of Montana’s five top-elected officials: the Governor, Attorney General, State Auditor, Secretary of State and Superintendent of Public Instruction. Their mission is to preserve the land and capture as much revenue as possible from leases. The lease rate for this 25-acre parcel is at least $140,000 per year, or nearly $12,000 a month.
It’s one of the last large parcels of land available in the Spring Prairie development and it’s already been zoned: R-4 or Residential, but the Planned Unit Development may provide some flexibility. Anyone interested is leasing the land should get a proposal into the Land Board by June 24th.
Last year, State Trust Land revenue for the state’s public schools exceeded $92-million.
