Taking the big money out of our elections, at this point, seems like some sort of mystical dream, but a coalition of former office holders are willing to take that dream to the electorate. A non-profit organization, The Transparent Election Initiative, is headed by former State Commissioner of Political Practices Jeff Mangan. His ultimate goal is end Citizens United and limit corporate contributions.
The question is, “how”. They’re calling their organization simply “TEI”, and they’re proposing an amendment to the Montana Constitution that would change the state’s corporate charters to explicitly prohibit corporations from donating to campaigns. And…it would require out-of-state firms to adhere to the law in Montana. It’s being called “The Montana Plan.”
Included in the coalition is former Sen. Jon Tester and former Governors. Mark Racicot and Steve Bullock.
We’ll open-up the discussion on this with Former Commissioner of Political Practices Jeff Mangan next Tuesday morning at 9:10 on the KGEZ Good Morning Show.
