Saying he’s standing up for the American worker, President Donald Trump is levying tariffs of at least 10% on nearly all goods entering the United States. For those countries with the highest trade deficits with the U.S., the tariffs are going to much higher.
About 60 countries, identified by the Trump Administration as “worst offenders,” will see new tariffs of at least half what they’re charging the U.S.
The reciprocal tariffs become effective next Wednesday, April 9th.
As for foreign-built automobiles, it’s a 25% tariff, effective midnight tonight.
The net effect, according to the President, is that more products will be manufactured in the U.S., which he says, will results in “stronger competition and lower prices for consumers.”
In the White House Rose Garden, the President declares “out declaration of economic independence.”
