Following last week’s Whitefish City Council Meeting, where Councilors expressed concerns about involving the Border Patrol in routine traffic stops, Police Chief Bridger Kelch instituted a new policy. That policy was put into action last Saturday morning when a traffic stop revealed an Immigration warrant.
Chief Kelch tells us the officer observed a white van apparently speeding on Hwy 93 South. When the driver was unable to produce a drivers license, proof of registration or proof of insurance, the officer asked a passenger to provide their license. That’s when the Immigration Warrant popped up. Following the new directives, the officer radioed the supervisor who contacted Border Patrol agents.
