The man at the center of an armed standoff on Sullivan Crossroad off Columbia Falls Stage Road about a year ago, has picked up an 8-month term in federal prison for aiming his laser at Two Bear Air. But that’s just a preview of what’s to come for 57-year-old Travis Myers.
In the District Court of Judge Dan Wilson, he faces additional charges of Deliberate Homicide, Attempted Deliberate Homicide, Criminal Endangerment, and Assault with a Weapon.
Here’s the backstory: Prosecutors tell us a man was delivering newspapers early the morning of September 4th when he called dispatchers saying he was taking incoming gunfire and a green laser was following him.
When they arrived, deputies were taking incoming gunfire and being tracked by that green laser. Two Bear was called in and the helicopter also began drawing gunfire and the green laser light. The situation escalated into rapid gunfire. That’s when the Northwest Montana Regional SWAT team was summoned.
They spotted Myers, in the doorway with a gun at his feet. When ordered to surrender, he refused. That’s when less-lethal munitions were fired at him…but he still refused to surrender. Ultimately, it was a K-9 unit that completed the apprehension. We’re told nobody was injured.
His trial before Judge Wilson begins September 9th. We’re told that cameras aboard Two Bear Air captured the event.
