o far this year, not much change in overall visitation into Glacier National Park, roughly 2.4-million through the end of August. But the last 2-months have shown market decreases during the traditionally busiest months. July saw a 3.4% decrease, while August was down a little over 4%.
The largest decline in visitors was to Many Glacier, down nearly 66% this year…largely due to the massive construction and road closures into the area. While the Park doesn’t track where visitors come from, it’s pretty clear that the biggest decreases were Canadian travelers, who have heard rumors of ICE detainment. A weaker Canadian dollar coupled with increased prices in Montana may have had a larger effect on the declines.
And then there’s the vehicle reservation requirements in the more-crowded areas of the Park, which concludes for this season on Sunday, September 28th.
