In Anaconda-Deer Lodge District Court, the mental fitness of 45-year old Michael Paul Brown, charged with killing of the only 4-people in the Owl Bar, is being called into question.
In addition, Brown’s defense is asking for a change of venue because of the massive media coverage the search and arrest.
Prosecutors are pressing forth with 4-counts of Deliberate Homicide, arson, theft and eluding a peace officer . He remains in the Butte-Silver Bow County Detection Center with bail set at $2-million.
Eluding capture for over a week, Brown was finally cornered in a camp trailer of Montana Highway 1 about 5 1/2 miles west of Anaconda. The owner of the property told the court that he’d encountered Brown the night of August 7th, but elected to not alert authorities until the next morning, fearing a night time confrontation. Brown told the owner that he was freezing and meant him no hard…that he’d made “a terrible mistake” the week before.
