FWP confirms non-native Brown Trout are swimming around the Flathead River, upstream of the Pressentine Fishing Access Site…and they’re not welcome.
We’re told Brown Trout can harm native Bull Trout and Westslope Cutthroat trout by eating Brown and Bull Trout young. They also are able to out compete our native fish for food.
FWP Regional Fisheries Manager Mike Hensler tells us apparently somebody is doing some bucket biology — adding the Brown Trout into our river system. This, he emphasizes, is totally illegal.
Anglers who catch a Brown Trout in the Flathead River drainage are urged to kill the fish and report the catch to FWP’s Regional Office.
