Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen has issued a warning to Montana businesses that a fake form is being circulated throughout the state. She says it “looks official”, but rest assured, it isn’t.
The letter is entitled, “2026 Additional Business Documents Needed”, indicating fines as high as $25,000 for noncompliance. The letter asks for personally-identified information, including the business’ E-I-N. If you read the small print, it’s a sales solicitation.
The Secretary of State’s Office has issued a “cease and desist” letter, but she advises businesses to be on the lookout for the letter and discard it if it arrives at your business.
