We learning that the State Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating a fatal shooting by an unidentified Law Enforcement officer Sunday afternoon in Philipsburg. The sparse information we have comes from the Montana Department of Justice.
They say the man entered the Sunshine Station Bar in Philipsburg Sunday afternoon around 4:00, threatening patrons with a gun. He left the bar, but was later located by deputies leading them on a short pursuit down Montana Hwy 1. In a confrontation with deputies, we’re told he pointed his gun at a deputy, who shot and killed the man.
No law enforcement personnel were injured and the deputy who fired the fatal shot in on administrative leave. Identities of the deputy or the victim haven’t been released.
