Tragedy struck the 58th Annual Lost Prairie Boogie Skydiving event Monday morning. Sheriff Brian Heino tells us one diver survived with minor injuries while a second diver died.
It was a mid-air collision between two skydivers at Meadow Peak Skydiving, near Marion. One of the skydivers was able to deploy their parachute and land safely. The other skydiver’s reserve parachute deployed automatically, using their Automatic Activation Device. That diver, despite lifesaving efforts, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other skydiver, whose chute deployed normally, was treated for minor injuries and released.
The deceased diver’s identity is being withheld while family is notified. Besides the Sheriff’s Office, the Marion Fire Department and ALERT helicopter responded. It was the 15th year that Meadow Peak Skydiving has hosted this event.
