There was a time when Pee Wee baseball was played in a neighborhood field called Thompson Field. Those days will be remembered Saturday morning with 2-games, one at 11:00 and one at 1:00.
Thompson Field is named after Gus Thompson, who pitched in the first World Series in 1903. A few years after that, he moved to Kalispell, where he ran a pool hall, cigar store and sports bar. He lived-out the rest of his days…50-years, until his death in 1958.
Saturday morning, we’ll remember Gus on the field bearing his name prior to each of the Pee Wee games. Thompson Memorial Field is at 8th Avenue East and 9th Street. It’s a good idea to bring a lawn chair to the events.
