The Whitefish City Council has given its unanimous consent to the Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Fiscal Year 27 budget, which takes effect July 1st.
The $300,000 comes from the State Commerce Department and the Tourism Advisory Council. Money collected from tourism taxes–including the infamous “bed tax”, is used to lure tourists from major cities into Montana…here, specifically the Whitefish area.
Montana is always looking to attract “high-value, low-impact” visitors…those they say respect the community, recreate responsibly and contribute positively. A lot of research goes into the areas where those marketing dollars are spent.
The Whitefish Convention & Visitors Bureau now has to submit their marketing plan to the Tourism Advisory Council.
