It’s been a tough stretch for the people of Anaconda with 2-bar shootings in less than a year…the latest last Saturday night at the historic Carmel’s Sports Bar (pictured).
This one has one man shot to death and another in jail. The man who was shot-to-death has been confirmed as the owner, Shane Charles, a man respected in the community. Here’s what we know–so far. Witness accounts say a man–now identified as 61-year old Mark Ray Lock of Anaconda, walked around the horseshoe style bar, engaging in brief conversation with Shane Charles. He that, according to witnesses, shot Charles at point-blank range. A bystander wrestled the gun away and Lock fled out the front door onto East 3rd Street.
When police arrived, bar patrons were applying CPR. Charles was rushed to the Community Hospital of Anaconda where he died. He leaves behind his wife and 4-daughters.
Police surrounded the immediate area Carmel’s. Soon, they saw a man matching Lock’s description driving a Honda Civic. Lock was then placed under arrest. Inside the vehicle, they found the 9-mm handgun thought to have been used in the bar.
No motive for the killing has been released by Anaconda Police. But the shooter, Mark Ray Lock of Anaconda, is now formally chaarged with Deliberate Homicide. He made his first appearance in Deer Lodge County Justice Court Monday morning. He’s being held it the Deer Lodge County Jail on $1-million bond.
Anaconda’s Owl Bar, the scene of the shootings about 10-months ago, is just a few blocks away from Carmel’s.
