KGEZ Wildfire Update

Wildfires Sending Smoke To NW Montana

We’re seeing smoke here in the Flathead, caused by some serious wildfires. As far as we know, all of them are lightning-caused.

The closest to us is the Elder 1 Fire, 7-miles west of Frenchtown. It’s at 510-acres with no containment. 140-firefighters are working this blaze today.

Just to the south of that, the North Fork Fire is up to 105-acres 10-miles southwest of Hamilton, north of the North Fork of Lost Horse Creek. About a third of that inferno is in steep, rocky terrain above 8,000-feet. They’re still working to get some containment.

The Twin Sisters Fire, 10-miles northwest of Judith Gap, is at 80-acres in heavy timber. They’ve achieved 15% containment.

Meanwhile, the Upper Smith Fire, 20-miles northwest of Bonners Ferry has grown to 1,518-acres, but they have it 15% contained this morning. Nearby, the Turner Fire is now 100% contained at 681-acres.
