It’s been over a decade coming, but construction of a roundabout at Hwy 2 West and Batavia Lane is set to begin next year. This intersection has been difficult for many years because of the proximity to the Smith Valley School and other businesses there. Over the years, there have been an unusual number of serious crashes.
The design of the roundabout has included input from truckers and others using that stretch of Hwy 2. The idea is to reduce speeds at that intersection and allowing a smooth process for exiting onto Batavia Lane without having to make left turns.
The new roundabout is expected to be in use late next year.
